Everyone talks about salt in watercolor like it’s a magic trick. Sprinkle it, wait, boom texture. But that’s not the full story. Salt does not obey you. It reacts to water, timing, pigment weight, humidity, the paper you chose, and even how impatient you were two minutes before. The same salt, same color, same brush, same artist can give completely different results every single time. And that’s the part no one loves to say out loud. You can’t control it. You can guide it, but you can’t command

Want to know the truth about salt and watercolor? 🧂 Salt is one of those watercolor tricks everyone hears about early on. Sprinkle it. Wait. Magic happens. End of story. Except… that’s not actually how it works, and that misunderstanding is why so many people get muddy, spotty, disappointing results and think they did something wrong. Here’s the part people don’t tell you. Salt does not create texture on its own. It reacts to water. More specifically, it pulls moisture and pigment toward itself

Who knew a bottle cap was the secret to the perfect Watercolor Rock Hen? 🐔✨ I started with a simple crescent shape, painted the neck and tail. Sprinkled some salt for that crusty texture, and finished with those fine details. 🧂🎨 What’s your favorite "unusual" tool to use while painting?
